Active Storage or Archive Storage

File System Storage or Content Addressed Storage?
It’s once again your choice.

If your choice is that you want to store your SharePoint content in a private cloud storage than the following question arises: What kind of private cloud storage?

Basically the choice is: do you want a private cloud storage based on a File System Structure or on a Content Addressed Storage?

To make that decision you have to look at the nature of your content and how it is being processed. If your content consists mainly of Microsoft Office content, like Excel spreadsheets, Word documents and PowerPoint presentations that are accessed frequently by a large group of users, than a File System Structure is your best decision. As it works fast, very fast.

If your SharePoint content is mainly archive content that should be kept in a high secure place to be stored away for years than a Content Addressed Storage is your best decision. With high secure we mean content that cannot be addressed without SharePoint access. Access other ways will result in unfindable content. High secure we also mean that content can only be altered or deleted according to storage policies.
